Make-up 101

This is for you moms out there that need a refresh for your make-up routine. These products are super easy and give you that quick polished look.

Cleanser & Moisturizer

I love this facial cleanser and intense moisturizer from L’Bri. L’Bri is a newer brand that you need to purchase from a consultant (there is a link to the products with a consultant on the image. I make no commission on this, just love the products). These products are aloe based (instead of water based). My face feels overly dry in the winter, and this moisturizer has solved that issue. I have tried multiple moisturizers over the years, and as of now, L’Bri is my favorite. I will say it took a bit to get used to the smell. The smell isn’t bad, but definitely one I wasn’t used to from the aloe base. The scent does dissipate quickly, and I am more intune to scents than others. These products are wonderful for our, I hate to say, mature skin.

All over face coverage

My favorite face coverage is Mac Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation. I find Mac Studio Fix is the best because of the coverage. This product can be used for a light coverage- covering the sheen from applying moisturizer and evening out my skin tone. It can also be applied a bit heavier for a night out on the town when you want a completely finished look.

Now for color- I am fair, don’t want to look like I have tons of make up on, and never know if I lean towards the orange or green tones. I have tried other brands, but for some reason the shade of Mac that I use has been the best to compliment my skin tone. Seriously too much to think about! I find Mac has been the best for the most natural coverage. I use shade NW25. Obviously this exact shade will not work for everyone, but hopefully it’s a starting point to help you with your own color.

Blush

Drunk Elephant blush is a liquid drop applied with your fingers. It gives me a very subtle glow on my cheeks, like coming in from the outdoors.

Nars Orgasm Blush has been a fan favorite for years. It is a color that somehow compliments most skin tones and gives your cheeks a gorgeous color with a bit of sheen.

Eyes

My favorite eye shadow right now is the Glam Palette by Natasha Denona . The pigmentation is great, nice sparkle (if you choose a sparkle color), and best of all the compact has a cheat sheet to it. Below each color states where the color belongs on your lid. Seriously it’s like the adult version of paint by number. Why do other brands not do this??? This is the absolute easiest eye shadow to use for beautiful eyes.

Another eye shadow that is great and easy right now is the eye shadow stix. I find this to be super-fast for a quick wake up look. The pen is like a oil crayon where it easily applies to your lid, doesn’t pull on your skin, and if you end up with a bit over where you truly wanted coverage, easy to wipe off.

Back to Mac for eye liner. The Mac Kohl Eyeliner is easy to apply, and you can smudge the color for different effects. The two colors I recommend are Teddy and Prunella. The pigmentation is great and I find the eye liner stays on and enhances your eyes without just having eye liner stand out.

I have a full blog on mascara brands my girl friends use and love daily. My favorite is Better Than Sex by Too Faced. I find the wand easy to use and doesn’t clump up the mascara. My very light eye lashes get full coverage both on top and bottom lids without chunks or clumps. To add extra volume to your lashes use a lash primer first. Dior primer is wonderful.

Lips

I received the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Holiday Collection last year, and when first using the lipstick, was really disappointed. I couldn’t understand all the fascination with it…until I applied the shimmery pillow talk gloss over. OMG-game changer! The gloss completed the look of this neutral matte lipstick. Well, unfortunately I used every last ounce of this gloss-which was seasonal. So, here’s my point to this…I was on a mission to find a similar gloss, which you would think it would be easy… but it wasn’t.(continued on picture below)

And then that golden ticket was found when I went to get my eyebrows done at Merle Norman. Merle Norman Lip Polish in Diamond Diva is a gloss that is pretty on it’s own(as shown in the photo), but when applied over lipstick just brings the lipstick color to the next level. It is almost like this gloss slightly neutralizes your lipstick color, but then pumps up the positive pigmentation with an added sparkle to it. Adding this gloss over the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk is, in my opinion, perfection!

I have contemplated doing a video tutorial, but honestly do you really want to see an almost 50 yr old, who is still learning poses and selfie filters do an up-close video? That’s right…just trust me!

I also realize that everyone’s skin color is different, so hopefully for those of you still reading this blog, you will understand that the colors I suggested for the most part are very neutral and just give you a finished polished look.

Let’s not just let the teens and 20/30 yr olds put their best self forward. We can all do this!

Love yourself at the stage you are in and shine bright!
