I had these wonderful plans, as I begin this new blog of writing today’s decorating post about textures. I follow tons of decorating sites and someone posted a picture of three throw pillows on a coach. In my opinion they were perfect. Warm, inviting, and just enough textures to break up monotony. But, as I earlier posted I was organizing my closet this week, and the more I have been working on it I realized I needed to go a different direction with my post. So- the theme to this blog is one word- PURGE!
I feel like the word purge can be a dreaded word. It’s heavy and hard for so many of us. Why? It’s the mental obstacles we put there. We need to change that thought process to one of new beginnings.
I have read one way to purge clothes is turn your hangers backwards and get rid of what you haven’t worn in a year. I haven’t tried that, and love things I haven’t worn in a year too. Another way to purge is to take every item out of your closet and only put back the ones you love. I am overwhelmed at that thought! I think the best bit of advice for me regarding purging is about confidence. I know this can sound shallow, but clothes should fit and compliment. Same with shoes- if they aren’t comfortable realistically how often do you wear them? l have been working on my closet this past week, and although it isn’t completely finished yet, it’s seriously so much better. I really struggle with getting rid of stuff. But that needs to stop. I need to remember if I can’t use it someone else will. I have changed sizes, changed styles, and let’s be honest typically in sweats or workout clothes. Purging can be hard to start, but emotionally therapeutic during the process. I often feel as a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Now I can’t tell you what to get rid of- but I can tell you if you group like items together you might be amazed at how many doubles you have. Hope this helps someone else and seriously just start!
